Master's Thesis on Studies of Migration, Ethnic Relations and Multiculturalism

Course goals

Writing a master's thesis is the major objective of the second year of the MERM program. The master thesis should have the form of a scientific journal article that could potentially be submitted to an academic journal.

 

Content

The criteria for the evaluation of the master's thesis are: a) scientific contribution: convincing argumentation that the study adds to the scientific literature, explicated in a research question; b) Theory: use of theory, testable hypotheses, relevant literature; c) Method: correct data collection/handling, measures, choice and description of method of analysis; d) Results: correct interpretation of findings, clear presentation; e) Discussion and conclusions: summary, broader implications, limitations, future research; f) Written presentation: writing, structure, tables and figures, references; g) Work independence: degree of independence; amount of supervision required; time management; h) ability to reflect orally on all these aspects part of the master's thesis in a presentation and defense.

The Master's thesis is written under individual supervision by a MERM teacher.
