Content

In this integrative practical, students will integrate theoretical knowledge from educational sciences and methodological and statistical knowledge while developing academic writing skills in the social sciences tradition. This integrative practical takes place during the first semester of the first year, parallel to the other Edsci courses. In this practical students complete three assignments. Students are provided with parts of a research article and they have to write a missing part of that article. In the first assignment students get the first part of an article up to the interpretation of the data analysis and they have to write the last part of the article (interpretation of the data analysis and discussion). In the second assignment they get the first part of another article including the research questions and the method section but without the results and they have to do the data analysis, and write the results section. In the third assignment, students have to write the last part of the article, interpret the outcomes and formulate conclusions (based on the results section of assignment 2). In the meetings students are actively involved in discussing their assignments with their fellow students and giving them peer-feedback as well as in discussing recent relevant developments in the field.

Upon completion of the course the student is able to:
a) demonstrate, orally and in writing, the competence to integrate theoretical, methodological and statistical arguments, decisions and interpretations;
b) demonstrate, orally and in writing, the competence to define a meaningful research problem, make decisions about data gathering and data analysis, carry out the data analysis, interpret the outcomes, evaluate the research, and formulate conclusions.
