Course goals

Writing a master's thesis is the primary objective of the second year of the research master programme.

The entire course will be taught in English. This also includes assignments and exams.

Content

The master's thesis is written under individual supervision by at least one of the senior researchers within the Department of Psychology who are involved in SHP. In addition, guidance in planning and conducting the master's thesis project and in preparing the master's thesis is provided on a regular basis in the courses SHP11 and SHP12. The SHP thesis should be an example of good theoretically grounded and methodologically sound research, either original or as part of an already existing research project within the research programs participating in SHP.
The master's thesis should have the form and format of a publishable research article of about 6000 words (including references and excluding tables and figures). This however may vary depending upon the requirements of the intended journal for publication. Note: When a master's thesis project requires complex data collection, it must be kept in mind that such data collection is time consuming. The time schedules for those master's thesis projects that do comprise complex data collection should clearly indicate the time budget needed for data collection and should clearly indicate that and how data collection fits into the total available time budget for the project.
