Course goals
The general aim of the present course is to provide students with practical experience in programming, conducting, and analyzing research (data science) on issues of behavioral regulation. Students will receive hands-on training aimed at fostering an in depth understanding of these paradigms.
Relationship between the course aims and the assessments:
The assignments primarily assess students’ skills relevant for doing research within the domain of behavioral regulation (specifically: programming, analysis and experimental design). The grade reflects students’ primarily the mastery of research skills.
Content
This course is an extension of Integrative practicum I. The present course, however, is aimed at providing students with demonstrations of and hands-on experience with research paradigms used in the study of behavioral regulation and regulation failure. It is decidedly practical in nature, giving students concrete experiences with the approaches and methods used in research in the regulation of social and health behavior and providing methodological practice in close cooperation with experienced researchers. Students will complete assignments that involve the development of research paradigms and tasks that are typically used in the research program at Utrecht University to study the regulation of health and interpersonal behaviour. Students will learn to analyze data from these paradigms in different statistical programs. In the latter part, there will be an emphasis on the various steps of data analysis using the programming language 'R'.
