Preparation RM thesis

Course goals

a. Develop expertise in a specific sub-field within the domain of methodology and statistics.
b. Translate a research question into an actionable research plan.
c. Determine the most effective research method(s) to address a research question, and justify the choices made.
d. Evaluating scientific knowledge about the research topic from different scholarly sources.
e. Using scientific judgments to address an advanced methodological or statistical question."

Relation between tests and learning goals: grading is done on basis of the research report. The quality of the research report shows to what extent the student got experience with carrying out and reporting methodological and statistical research.

Content

The preparation for the RM thesis (15 EC) will take place in the first semester of the second year. The students carry out a research project that prepares for the research project carried out in the master thesis (MSBBSS12). The preparation for the RM thesis runs along with the research seminar (MSBBSS10).
It has the following aims:
1) to master the state of the art in methodology and statistics with respect to the research topic chosen;
2) to master research skills in the area of methodology and statistics with respect to the research topic chosen; 
3) to develop experience in writing.
