Course goals

The entire course will be taught in English. This also includes assignments and exams.

During your internship you will be working as a psychologist in one of the occupational or research fields in Work and Organisational Psychology. The learning goals of the internship are the following:
1.       learning to apply knowledge and skills that you acquired in the field of Work and Organisational Psychology
2.       further development of professional skills that are relevant to the field of Work and Organisational Psychology.
Professional and scientific reflection is hereby an important aspect.

Correspondence between the evaluation and learning goals

The general and individual learning goals of the internship need to be addressed in an individual internship report and during performance appraisals by the supervisor of the organisation. The grade for the internship is based on the assessment of 1) work activities and process (encompassing performance of tasks, knowledge and insight, communication and cooperation, work attitude, and professional and academic reflection) and 2) the quality of the internship report. The teacher will thereby consult the supervisor of the organisation.

Content

Students typically choose a practical assignment within an organisation, with the primary goal of gaining hands-on experience in the professional field. This may include areas such as consultancy, human resource management (HRM), training, coaching, recruitment, and selection. Students may also opt for a research assignment, at the university or in another scientific research institute. Additionally, a selective and limited opportunity exists for students to complete a training internship at the university. This program prepares them to become trainers in a course focused on communication skills. Students can also opt for an entrepreneurial project, in which they develop their own company.

Internships are supervised in the organisation by a professional (in principle, a Work and Organisational Psychologist) who is expert in the activities to be performed. Students also receive supervision from a teacher of the department. It is recommended to combine the internship with the thesis. We also advise students to start their search for an internship as early as possible and to look beyond the internships that we provide on our internship bank. The regulations concerning the internship can be found on Brightspace. Further information about internships can be obtained via the coordinator of the master track Work and Organisation, Dr. Tom Damen (SHOP_Workandorganisation@uu.nl).
