Course goals

The goal of this course is to help students develop into academic professionals and scientist-practitioners, whereby they will learn to integrate their scientific knowledge and skills in daily professional practice. 

At the end of this course students should be able to:
  • Critically evaluate scientific knowledge relevant to the professional field of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology
  • Reflect on applications of psychological knowledge in the field of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology
  • Reflect on ethical dilemmas in the field of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology
  • Evaluate policy developments in the field of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology
  • Transfer professional knowledge to fellow students (i.e., future colleagues) on topics relevant to Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology
  • Critically appraise their own professional responsibilities as future professionals in the field of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology

Relation between assessment and objective
The course learning objectives will be assessed through written and oral assignments that require integration of material presented in the lectures and working groups. These assignments will form the “portfolio”.
Students will be required to critically appraise the relevant literature and formulate arguments that support their position on topical issues in the field of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology.
Students can only complete Academic Professional after they have completed their internship. If the internship has not yet been completed within the current academic year, the student must re-enrol in the Internship and Academic Professional courses. They will then be granted exemption for parts.

Content
The course includes
(1) thematic lectures about current issues in the field of clinical child and adolescent psychology,
(2) activities helping students to prepare for professional practice and job search,
(3) symposia in which students prepare presentations on ethical issues and current policy developments in the field of clinical child and adolescent psychology.
