Internship Neuropsychology (Clinical Track)

Course goals

After finishing the clinical internship the student has accomplished:

• Fulfilling the complete neuropsychological-diagnostic process under supervision (consisting of: formulating hypotheses, (hetero-)anamnesis, planning and executing a neuropsychological test, scoring and interpreting the test results, writing a report, verbally reporting the test results and providing possible advice, if possible a short introduction to treatments)

Relation between assessment and objective
The internship report reflects on the achieved personal and professional goals and the accomplished activities during the internship. 
 

Content

The clinical internship consists of participating (under supervision) in the duties of a neuropsychologist within a clinic in which people with cognitive function disorders are diagnosed, treated and/or nursed. It concerns an external diagnostic internship in a clinic which is approved by the internship coordinator. A clinical internship should contain a minimum of  60% diagnostic work. This is possible in a neurological, rehabilitation or psychiatric department of a (academic) hospital, rehabilitation centers, psychiatric hospitals or nursing homes. More information on specific neuropsychological internships can be received from the internship coordinator. Before contacting a possible host institution, it is advised to contact the internship coordinator first, so he/she can confirm that the place meets the specific requirements. In addition, supervision of the university is provided through an internship teacher, who will guide the student together with the direct mentor of the internship. At the end of the internship the grade will be determined which will be based on the grade given by the internship mentor and the internship report. The internship teacher and the intern will have a final meeting in which the report, consisting of a reflection on the achieved goals and accomplished activities, will be discussed. Please note that students who start the master Neuropsychology in September 2024 can apply for clinical internships until the first of March 2025. If the student has not found a clinical internship by this date, only research/innovation internships are open for application.
