Faculteit
NiveauMaster
Studiejaar2026-2027

Beschrijving

Course goals

After completion of the thesis, the student:
  • is able to independently conduct empirical research
  • will have acquired basic skills to write a scientific report in a format that is commonly used in the field

Relation between assessment and objective
The presentation and written scientific report reflect the research, writing and presentation skills of the student. In addition, the ability to work independently as well as scientific and professional skills are evaluated and integrated into the final pass/fail of the project via an assessment form.

Content

While working on the master's thesis, the student will gain experience with setting up, executing and reporting an (applied) scientific experiment in cognitive psychology or related field. The research can be proposed by one of the supervisors at the university or by a research facility outside the university. Based on a relevant problem or question from the occupational field or theoretical exploration, hypotheses will be developed, and methods to test these hypotheses will be decided upon. The results, conclusions and possible recommendations following from the study will be presented in an academic paper.
To discuss possible options and procedures students should contact the thesis coordinator of the programme. It is a prerequisite that the thesis coordinator approves the research the student wishes to study. It is strongly advised to the student to start his/her search for a topic and/or institute of interest in a timely fashion. For more information, the student can contact the thesis coordinators Jeroen Benjamins (J.S.Benjamins@uu.nl) and Stella Donker (S.F.Donker@uu.nl).

  • Writing a scientific report (whether or not tailored to the occupational field)
