Content
This course gives an overview of the state-of-the-art in data collection methods. Students will get to know the professional field of data collection and its innovations and challenges. This course brings together people working in science (university, scientific research institutes), government (e.g. national and local, Statistics Netherlands, Netherlands Institute for Social Research), and different (large and small) market research agencies. It consists of guest seminars by people working in science, governmental agencies and market research agencies, along with online materials (webinars, articles, blogposts). Every year, a different theme is chosen that links all seminars together. In the past, such a theme was for example, the impact of crises (war, pandemics) on data collection.
Combining these materials, the students get acquainted with different viewpoints on data collection, areas of innovation, and challenges that people face when working for these different types of institutes. Knowledge obtained from this course will help students face multidimensional problems during their professional career.
