SASR06 Research skills and proposal

This course is divided into two parts focusing on the development and application of research skills and the development of their research proposal, respectively.

In the first half of the course, students will learn about open science principles and practices, such as replication, reproducibility, pre-registration and open data/materials. They will then apply this knowledge and skills in a hands-on activity related to open science, for example reproducing the results of an existing scientific paper. The knowledge and skills students develop in this course will be essential to carrying out their thesis, and to their development as an independent scientist more generally.

In the second half of the course, students will develop their own research proposal on a topic within the department's broad areas of expertise. This part of the course also comprises several seminars guiding students on the development of the proposal.
