Aan het eind van de cursus kan de student:

• Uitleggen hoe organismen op verschillende niveaus elkaar beïnvloeden, welke processen hierbij belangrijk zijn en hoe evolutie en ecologie met elkaar interacteren.
• Een presentatie in het Engels geven over een evolutiebiologisch onderwerp
• Een degelijk onderzoeksvoorstel schrijven en het onderzoek uitvoeren
• Een wetenschappelijk rapport/artikel schrijven met gebruik van primaire literatuur

Inhoud
In this multidisciplinary course, the phenomenon of co-evolution will be presented, discussed and researched from a variety of angles and disciplines. First, primary papers and recent overviews will be used to present & discuss a variety of aspects related to co-evolution. These aspects will elaborate on selection and adaptation, (sympatric) speciation, genome evolution, cooperation and interdependency. These aspects will be explained from the perspective of the following disciplines:  Bio-informatics, Plant-microbe interactions, Ecology, and Behavioral biology.
Second, the students (in small groups of 3-5 individuals)  will focus on writing a research proposal, followed by performing a set of experiments during 5-6 weeks in the field of one of the participating disciplines. Finally, students will write a research report and present their results in a student-organized symposium.
