Content
Content
The course is split in a theoretical and a practical part. In the first lectures the three most prominent strategy theories are introduced, discussed and applied. Those form the basis for the subsequent weeks that which feature practical aspects of strategy such as strategic formulation and strategic implementation. This is followed by an overview of the division of strategy in corporate, business and functional strategic components. That division will be of relevance for the subsequent topic of international strategy.
The course will end with an evolution of strategic cooperation from joint ventures via strategic business alliances to platforms. An essential part of the content is also the orientation of the group assignment: in small groups, students will work towards applying the course content to a imaginary firm in the context of the real setting and circumstances of an industry or sector of their choice. There is the possibility to link this to their Bachelor’s Science degree but they are free to select a different (type of) industry of their interest. Before submitting the report, the group will provide a presentation of a summarised content of their report in a plenary seminar session to the peers of their tutorial.
Format of sessions
Weekly interactive lectures and tutorials to elaborate and expand upon particular aspects. Time will also be dedicated to the group assignment, particularly the presentation.
