This (combined PhD/MSc) course starts with an intense week (expect a full-time week of contact hours) with introductory lectures, seminars by external experts, group discussions, and student pitches on Monday-Wednesday. This will lay a foundation to understand current concepts in cancer biology and to prepare for participation in the two-day annual scientific meeting of the Oncode Institute, usually held at the KIT (Royal Institute for the Tropics) in Amsterdam on Thursday and Friday. This meeting features several international and national speakers in the field of fundamental cancer biology many of them top class. Note that travel to Amsterdam is not reimbursed (but lunch, coffee and drinks is usually included).
The second week has very limited contact hours and is dedicated to a writing assignment. The students will draft a 2-page research idea on a new collaboration that introduces and combines the work of two speakers that presented at the Oncode meeting.
A general introduction with literature is provided, further portfolio is put together on the basis of the invited speakers, subject to be discussed is also dependent on the subject of study of the invited speakers
