Course goals
- After the course, students have assessed what job field within the Life Sciences appeals to them most and can individually construct an action plan toward finding a job in the respective field
- After the course, students will have the tools and knowledge to prepare and review all necessary documents (CV, cover letter, contracts)
- After the course, students have started to compile a network of relevant actors in their field(s) of interest.
- After the course, students will be able to describe the job application process from start to finish and can generally describe what is expected from them throughout the process
- After the course, students will be able to communicate their personal strengths and weaknesses effectively during a job interview
- After the course, students have practiced a job interview setting and can prepare themselves for a real job interview individually.
- After the course, students will be able to discuss and negotiate employment conditions.
Content
Period (from - till):
February 19, 2027 – April 16, 2027 (BMS_P3_A)
5 mandatory meetings on location during this period on Friday February 19, March 5 and 19, and April 2 and 16. During the last course day (April 16) a part of the assessment takes place. If you are unable join the course days on location, you can unfortunately not join this course.

Description of content
The course Career Orientation and Professional Skills aims to prepare students of the Graduate School of Life Sciences for the job market by guiding them through topics such as self-exploration, exploring the job market, networking, LinkedIn, cv and cover letter, practicing a job interview, and (salary)negotiation skills.
This course focusses on the Dutch labor market. However, the insights and skills learned will also be applicable to finding a job somewhere else in the world.

You can register for this course via Osiris Student. More information about the registration procedure can be found here on the Students' site.
Minimum of 8 and a maximum of 20 participants.
Prerequisite knowledge
You have a LinkedIn account, a basic CV, and a general idea of you qualities and skills
