Course goals
Course goals:
The course is highly recommended for students doing or planning to do an internship at the department of Pharmacology.
At the end of the course, students should have a good understanding of:
Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics
Drug Discovery
In vivo and advanced in vitro models for pharmacological research
At the end of the course, students should be able to:
Plan, prepare, analyse and interpret pharmacological experiments
Understand the characteristics of different models available to generate screening assays in the search for new drugs and disease mechanisms.
Master literature research (identification and selection of literature for a specific topic) .
Summarize and discuss the information obtained in the literature.

Content
The use of advanced in vitro models as well as in vivo measurements is essential for the study of drugs and their effects. The students will learn about the mechanisms of drug action, the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of drugs, and how drugs are developed and tested. More specifically, the course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the pre-clinical methodologies to identify disease mechanisms and to assess the safety and efficacy of drugs performed at the division of Pharmacology.
