Content

The Senior Extramural Rotation (SECo) course is one of the mandatory clinical courses in the small animal track and is preferably taken at the end of the master's degree. Extramural education, like the junior extra mural rotation course (JECo), also contains intramural  group education on certain days (so-called ‘ terugkomdagen’).

During this course, you participate in a primary care companion animal practice and carry out assignments related to primary care veterinary medicine. This course gives you the opportunity to function at the end level in primary care practice as much as possible: you will be able to apply all the knowledge and skills acquired from the bachelor's and master's degrees in this practice. This course offers the opportunity to achieve learning objectives that we consider essential for graduating as a veterinarian. In addition, you can further develop knowledge, insights, and skills in professional, personal and social aspects, such as further developing professional behaviour towards the patient (the animal), the client (patient-owner) and fellow veterinarians and veterinary assistants. With the help of faculty and external veterinary teachers, you will have the opportunity to work on your personal learning goals as well. During the days at the faculty, the experiences you gain as a veterinarian in practice are reflected on and supplemented by topics such as the role of the veterinarian in society , triage, animal welfare, own welfare and wellbeing, ethical and moral dilemma’s and disciplinary law.

The SECo course specifically contributes to the attainment of an entry-level competency for functioning as a veterinarian in the primary care practice.
