Content
The RM thesis should be written in the format of a paper that can be submitted to an international peer-reviewed journal in the field chosen by the student, with any supplementary material in appendix. Students are strongly encouraged to aim at ultimately publishing the research in their research master thesis, but are at the same time advised to be patient in doing this. Especially students who continue with a PhD are advised to take time during the PhD trajectory to improve the paper based on their research master thesis, and aim for a high-ranking journal.
Students progress through various stages while working on their RM thesis throughout the RM programme. The preparation stage initiates in the first year, during which students select a research topic and thesis supervisors, drawing on the content of first-year courses. Students are also encouraged to attend internal and external seminars at U.S.E. to explore potential ideas and to meet the speakers. The main stage unfolds in periods 3 and 4 of the second year, in which students will perform the research for the RM thesis and take part in the RM thesis course. The course consists of some mandatory feedback meetings that will be attended by the ECRMT course coordinator and fellow students. The final stage, encompassing the defence and completion of the RM thesis, takes place in the concluding weeks of period 4 of the second year.
