Course goals

Students learn to reflect on their own aims and expectations, talents, skills and preferences in relation to the BA programme’s intended learning outcomes, as well as professional behaviour, regulations and expectations concerning student progress, and course and career options.

Content

First-year students receive academic advice and support in the tutor programme. In this integral part of the BA programme, each student is assigned a tutor, who is the student’s go-to instructor for guidance on the BA programme. The tutor programme involves group and individual meetings from the first day of the introduction to the end of the academic year, when the student has completed the tutor programme and obtained the go-ahead for further studies, a positive Bindend Studieadvies (binding recommendation on academic advancement). The tutor helps tutees to make the best of their studies and informs them about course options and regulations. The tutor group provides students with a sense of community within the BA programme.

Students are expected to attend the group meetings, prepare the assignments and inform their tutor of any circumstances that hinder or expedite their studies. The tutor can refer students to the academic advisor (studieadviseur) if their (personal) circumstances cause them to run into delays.

This course will be registered as completed at the end of the first year if the student has completed all of the assignments, attended all of the meetings and obtained a positive binding recommendation on academic advancement.
