Course goals

A specific aim of the course is to connect students and teachers from various disciplines, to build bridges between life sciences, natural sciences, social sciences, and spiritual sciences. This course will further challenge your curiosity, creativity, and autonomy.

Content

Pushing up the daisies. Gone to meet maker. Departed. Death. Despite the many many words that we can use to talk and think about death, there is nothing more mysterious in life than death. Death is such a comprehensive phenomenon that it can be studied by almost every scientific discipline, like biology, psychology, health care, epidemiology, philosophy, literature, art, law, sociology, anthropology, archeology,  history, theology, and many more. How fascinating this is!
In this course you will study death using a multidisciplinary approach. Together with students and teachers from different disciplines and backgrounds, you will discover how death is an important part of our daily existence, how it inspired painters, writers, singers, and thinkers, how it is experienced in different cultures and in different religions, and how different research fields try to understand death.

After completing the course, you will not only have a better understandig of death, but also of life.

Note: This course heavily relies on group work, therefore attendance at all meetings is mandatory.
