Course goals

By the end of the course, students will be able:

  1. Utilize a range of technology tools and resources to support student-centered learning, inquiry, and assessment in STEM subjects.
  2. Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the role of technology in enhancing teaching and learning experiences across STE(A)M disciplines.
  3. Explore and evaluate the potential of emerging technologies, such as Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and modeling and simulations, for enhancing STE(A)M education.
  4. Foster creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills through the use of technology in STEAM education.
  5. Reflect on the ethical considerations and responsible use of technology in the context of STEAM education, including issues related to privacy, security, and equity.
  6. Design and implement technology-integrated curricula that align with learning objectives and promote engagement, collaboration, and critical thinking.

Content

The Technology-Enhanced Curricula course aims to empower educators by providing them with the necessary knowledge and skills to integrate advanced technologies into educational settings. Throughout this course, students will explore constructionism and critical pedagogy, and engage in a combination of theoretical learning and hands-on activities. These activities will help them understand the educational potential of emerging technologies like digital fabrication (e.g., 3D printing), simulations, and artificial intelligence (AI), among others. In the practical part of the course, you will have the opportunity to become familiar with creative educational technologies and design prototypes for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) learning activities. To support this process, you can utilize the equipment available at the Teaching and Learning Lab and Lili's Proto Lab. Additionally, experts from various disciplines will offer guidance and feedback during the planning and designing phases of your project. You will have the flexibility to decide whether you want to work on your project individually or as part of a group. The final assessment will be based on the documentation of your developed project and the argumentation for the underlying design principles you employed. This will allow you to showcase your understanding of the concepts learned throughout the course and demonstrate your ability to apply them effectively.
