Research project: proposal

Course goals

The thesis should demonstrate that you are able to produce new scholarly knowledge and insights according to the rules and methods current in the field of HPS, and that you can share your results with fellow researchers in a coherent way. It is based on independent research, refers to relevant litera­ture, assesses earlier work on a chosen topic and contributes to scholarly debate. 
Once the topic and research question are defined and initial research has been done, the supervisor will assess whether the research project should proceed (‘go/no go decision’). 

Content

The assessment should include:
- relevance of the research topic within the field of HPS
- formulation of the research question
- chances of success of finishing the thesis within the required time frame
- availability of sufficient literature, sources or other required material
- a critical overview of the existing scholarly literature
 
After the evaluation, the supervisors should submit the Thesis Assessment Form part I to the HPS programme coordinator, who will register the result in Osiris.
