Product Analysis and Development

Course goals

By the end of this course, the student is able to:

• Develop requirements, through integrated analysis, for a professional communication or education (CE) product;
• Design an evidence-based CE product by integrating theoretical insights from the science communication knowledge base;
• Critically evaluate both the final product and the design process using objective criteria;
• Collaborate effectively with clients and engage appropriately with diverse target audiences to maintain professional relationships;
• Reflect on personal and professional growth by evaluating pre-determined learning aims against their practical internship experiences.

Content

This course bridges the gap between academic theory and professional practice in the field of science communication. Through a combined trajectory of university-led educational sessions and a professional internship, you will apply theoretical insights directly within a real-world organizational context. In addition, you will gain professional experience in a science communication or education organization, performing diverse tasks and engaging directly with target audiences. Your primary objective is to design a concrete communication or education (CE) product tailored to the needs of your host organization. You will use current literature to inform your design, culminating in a (research- or evidence-based) report that justifies the "why" and "how" of the final product. You will monitor your growth by reflecting on specific professional learning aims established at the start of the internship.
