Course goals

Student
- gains insight in arguments in ethical debates in the context of research & technology
- is able to apply philosophical concepts in normative theories, moral psychology  and anthropology
- is able to reflect on the notion of responsible innovation
- is stimulated to develop a self-standing position on ethics & technology

Content

This course focuses on technological developments in various fields of application, that lead to discussions on ethical legitimacy as well as that it challenges to reflect on interesting philosophical concepts from fields of moral psychology and anthropology. How does AI influence our view on technology and humanity, what impact does datafication have on our social networks and autonomous self, what to think of persuasive technologies (like nudging) and how do our views on self, others and technology change our views on democracy as well?  
 
LAS and TCS students who follow this course as part of the core curriculum of their major, need to complete a compulsory preparation course/assignment. See for more information: https://tcs.sites.uu.nl/
