Content
Innovation is a key determinant of the survival and competitive advantage of technology based firms, and important to overcome societal challenges. However, it is also a high risk process, in which many critical choices need to be made. This course uses theory and practical examples to help students understand the innovation strategies of firms and entrepreneurs. Taking the firm as the central actor, the course focuses on the role of routines, resources, collaborations, the organisational structure, and strategy in the innovation process. Moreover, the course pays specific attention to innovative start-up firms. The course contains a theoretical and a practical part. In various formats (podcasts, readings, co-working days) you will learn about the innovation process. In the practical part, the obtained theoretical knowledge is applied by writing a business plan. The practical part runs throughout the course. Note: there are some weeks where both theory and practice are prominent.
