General information
For graduation in one of the Earth Sciences master programmes, each student must attend at least 10 scientific presentations / symposia / seminars offered by the Departments of Earth Sciences and Physical Geography, and their research groups and give a poster presentation of their own MSc Research project during one of the dedicated poster sessions of Earth Sciences Utrecht. A portfolio should be compiled, which consists of short, written reports about at least 10 talks you have attended (see for contents of the reports the example in the portfolio template file below) as well as an A4 copy of your poster and a short summary of the peer-feedback received on your poster (see below) and a short reflection on this feedback.
During each academic year, three poster sessions will be organised by the team of programme leaders. These sessions will be held on an afternoon and will be followed by drinks. Students will be asked to display and present your poster during a poster session (i.e., stand by your poster and discuss your research with session attendees). Furthermore, all poster presenters will be asked to peer review three other posters. The dates and locations of the poster sessions as well as guidelines for printing, putting up your poster and providing peer feedback will be communicated at least one month before via an email announcement via the Master earth Sciences talks Brightspace community.

Instructions
It is your responsibility to maintain a portfolio of the reports of each (i.e. at least 10) attended presentation and the report on the peer-feedback on your poster. Write a short report about every talk you have attended as well a a copy of your poster and a short reflection of the peer feedback you received on your poster. A template of the portfolio can be found in the Master Earth Sciences community on Brightspace.
Eligible presentations for inclusion in your portfolio can be found in the calendar on Blackboard (see left menu) and include MSc-thesis talks/colloquia, FEST (Friday Earth Science talks), lunch lectures, and other occasional talks or seminars. Apart from talks offered by the Departments of Earth Sciences and Physical Geography, part of the portfolio may consist of reports of talks given elsewhere, such as presentations given at other UU research groups (for example, IMAU-colloquia), public lectures (inauguration or farewell speeches, Studium Generale), national and international symposia, seminars or conference sessions, as long as there is a clear and relevant link to Earth Sciences. Note that a symposium counts as 1 event/ Earth Science talk. The same applies to conference sessions. If you attend several talks during a symposium, you can either select one for you report or you write a summary of the whole symposium. Not more than one session per conference is allowed to be included in your portfolio. Reports of business presentations and workshops, and lectures as part of a course do not count towards the portfolio.
After finalising the portfolio, please submit it via the link below. After evaluation, your portfolio will be marked as “passed” in OSIRIS within 10 working days after submission during the regular teaching period (i.e. week 36 – 51 and week 2 – 28). Please take this term of 10 days into account when planning your graduation date.
