In the Master’s programme, there is room for electives, depending on the track in the programme. The Master's electives may be extra courses or any other type of activity that aids to the competences of the student in relation to the degree requirements of the Master’s programme. Examples are research projects, workshops, summer schools, etc. These Master's activities may be incorporated in a Tailor-made course.

A Tailor-made course must be an independent project, which means, that there must be no overlap with other courses of the Master’s programme, nor with electives you have taken or are planning to take or with the Master’s thesis. An exception can be made in the case of pursuing the publication of the master thesis as a scientific article in a journal. In this case, particular attention must be paid in detailing which activities will be carried for the preparation of the paper submission (e.g. additional analysis/writing of the manuscript).

In this course, the student takes the initiative to formulate a proposal for a Tailor-made course (GEO4-2517) and to find a staff member willing to provide guidance and grading during the course. It is suggested to get in contact with the programme coordinator for a preliminary check of the tailor made course. Note that staff members are not obliged to supervise a Tailor Made Course. The proposal must be approved by the supervisor and programme leader and should contain at least the following elements:

1. start with “Proposal for a Tailor-made course within the master programme Energy Science”;
2. Name and studentnumber;
3. Date;
4. Supervisor (staff member);
5. Title for your course
6. Intended learning outcomes;
7. Relation of learning outcomes to Master’s programme degree requirements;
8. Short description of activities;
9. End products;
10. Mode of assessment;
11. Time planning.

After the proposal has been written, it must be signed by the staff member who is supervising and grading the course, and then be sent to the programme leader. Approval from the programme leader should be received at least 1 month prior to the start of the course. The course will not start until the programme leader  has approved your proposal. Assessment at the end of the project will be based on the assessment criteria as specified in the proposal,.
