The objective of the course is to introduce students to the role that technology plays in meeting sustainable development goals and provide insights and basic tools to critically evaluate technology and its contribution to sustainable development.
After successful completion of the course, the student understands:
  • The dimensions of sustainable development
  • The role of technology in pathways to sustainable development
  • The technological options to address sustainability challenges
  • The potential and limitations of available technology assessment tools

Content

Sustainable development includes many challenges. Companies are more and more faced with the challenges in their daily business. To realize the goals technological solutions are often needed. This course will introduce the many dimensions of sustainable development through the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The interactions of the various goals will be evaluated in the course, as well as the technological opportunities to address these challenges. A systems perspective is central to understand the potential contribution and impact of technologies. In the course you will get an overview of the tools and techniques to evaluate technologies and their potential contribution. The course provides a basis for students to understand the contributions and limitations of technology in address sustainability challenges.
