Course goals

Please note: the information in the course manual is binding.

Build on competences of the student in relation to the degree requirements of the Master's programme.

Content

Students in Water Science and Management/Water Management for Climate Adaptation may choose other Master’s courses as electives in their programme. They may also opt for a Tailor Made Course in which  they develop their own project. This project must contribute to the competences of the students as specified in degree requirement of the Master’s programme. Moreover the contents of the project must be additional to the courses already followed. Examples of  projects include research projects, literature reviews, participation in summer schools, etc.

A Tailor-made course must be an independent project, which means there is to be no overlap with other courses of the Master’s programme, nor with electives you have taken or are planning to take or with the Master’s thesis, with the exception of the option to publish your thesis as a scientific article in a journal.

The student takes the initiative to formulate a proposal for a Tailor-made course and must find a staff member willing to provide guidance and grading during the course. Note that staff members are not obliged to supervise a Tailor Made Course.
The proposal must be approved by the supervisor and programme leader and should contain at least the following elements:

  1. start with “Proposal for a Tailor-made course within the Master’s programme Water Science and Management/Water Management for Climate Adaptation”;
  2. Name and studentnumber;
  3. Date;
  4. Supervisor (staff member);
  5. Title for your course;
  6. Requested EC (7,5 or 15);
  7. Intended learning outcomes;
  8. Relation of learning outcomes to Master’s programme degree requirements;
  9. Short description of activities;
  10. End products;
  11. Mode of assessment;
  12. Time planning.

After the proposal has been written, it must be signed by the staff member who is supervising and grading the course, and then be sent to the programme leader. Approval from the programme leader should be received at least 1 month prior to the start of the course. The course will not start until the programme leader  has approved your proposal. Assessment at the end of the project will be based on the assessment criteria as specified in the proposal,. If you have any questions regarding the possible content of your Tailor-made course please contact your Master programme leader.
