Research Thesis MA International Relations in Historical Perspective

Course goals

Students will:
-have profound knowledge of and insight into to field of History of International Relations, (History & Theory)   
-have thorough knowledge of a focus area within the study programme, or thorough knowledge on the interface of the study programme and another field   
-have the academic skills to identify, formulate, analyse and suggest possible solutions to problems in the field of History of International Relations.  
-have the academic skills to conduct research on the History of International Relations and report on it in a manner that meets the customary standards of the discipline. 
-be able to communicate conclusions, as well as the underlying knowledge, grounds and considerations, to an audience composed of specialists or non-specialists. 
-learn to independently gain and assess empirical and theoretical knowledge on a specific topic at an expert level
-learn to independently conduct research at an expert plus level and on the basis of  an independently formulated research question and an autonomous exploration of relevant sources, including an extensive amount of primary sources, in combination with a legitimate method of research.

 

Content

The Research Thesis is based on the work conducted at the Research Tutorial. The assessment criteria are the same as with the normal thesis. However, the Research Thesis is more extended, and also shows a higher level of analysis. It entails a more expanded use of sources, including an extensive amount of primary sources. (archival material, interviews and resolutions, declarations, proceedings and policy-papers). Length: Min. 20.000 max. 25.000 words (incl. annotation)
