MA-Thesis History of Politics and Society

Course goals

The aim of the thesis is to allow students:
- to acquire the ability to carry out their own comparative or long-term historical research project in the field of the history of politics and society
- to apply to their research project appropriate theories, concepts and methods
- to report on their research according to academic standards

Content

The topic of the thesis (c. 12,500 words) should be related to one of the core themes of the MA-programme. Students will be offered a choice from several topics, such as: democracy, citizenship, collective action, the welfare state, civil society, and capitalism/the market. Students are expected to use the theories and methods acquired during the MA-programme. Preparation for the thesis takes place as part of the course Themes in the History of Politics and Society, for which students will be expected to write an outline of their thesis and the introductory chapter. 

Before starting your thesis you need to have completed the following courses:

GKMV17016 Themes in the History of Politics and Society
