Graduation Project: Internship Cultural History

Course goals

After completion, students will be able to:

• translate knowledge questions from professionals into a concrete, realistically planned research design
• carry out a research project in cultural history and/or heritage studies by applying appropriate theories, concepts and methods;
• present the research results in a product that is academically sound, and geared towards a specific audience, which could be academic, non-academic, or both
• act professionally in organisations
• formulate professional and personal learning goals
• reflect on their own learning process, with specific attention for the genre of the thesis they have produced and the influence of their working environment on their graduation project

Content

Students do an (international) internship where they work on research that will eventually result in the final product for their thesis. They connect to the questions and knowledge of the internship partner, usually an institution from the cultural history or heritage sector. The internship is concluded with a reflection report, including logbooks kept during the process and sent (bi-)weekly to the supervising teacher.

The following courses must have been completed:
- GKMV22014: Cultuurgeschiedenis Thesis Tutorial
- GKMV17001: Ges-Cultuur begrijpen/Ges-Understanding Culture OR GKMV17002: Ges-Public History 

Career orientation:
Students gain professional experience working in a field related to cultural history.

Course registration
The HUM Internship Office will register you for the Internship course. Before they can do that, you need to take a number of steps yourself. You can find these steps on the internship page of your programme. The fixed registration periods for regular courses do not apply to internships. On the internship page you can find when you should have registered.
