Course goals

By the end of the course, students are familiar with the concept of archaeological cultural heritage. They can describe and evaluate the ways in which this heritage can be transferred to a variety of audiences. Second, students are acquainted with the special challenges (political, economic, and ideological) that archaeological sites and artifacts present to heritage professionals. By looking at case-studies from around the world students learn to identify and assess the best methods for the cultural transfer of archaeological heritage.

Content

This course aims to familiarize students with the concept of archaeological cultural heritage, the related theoretical frameworks, the role(s) cultural heritage play in current-day society and politics, and how it can be transferred to a variety of audiences. In addition, it challenges the student to reflect on their own potential role in that process of transfer.
