Research Internship

Course goals

You do a Research Internship in periods 3 and 4 of the second year. The aim of this internship is to learn how to apply research skills in practice, to develop organizational and communication skills, and to get to know organizations like research institutes, museums or governmental agencies.
 
The Research Internship can take place at a range of organisations, depending on the individual student’s career ambitions. This may include universities, research institutes, museums, governmental agencies, and NGOs, to name a few. If you would like to simultaneously broaden your cultural horizons, we offer the option to pursue a research internship at a university or other organization abroad.

Most research internships are 30 ECTS (840 hours), but you may alternatively choose a research internship of 15 ECTS (420 hours) with the remaining 15 ECTS supplemented by additional coursework.

Content

The internship assignment can be manifold, but needs to have the academic level appropriate to a Research Master’s degree. Importantly, this implies that you will have to do independent, individual research. The supervisor from the UU will check whether the internship plan fits with the aims of the Master’s programme.

Course registration
The HUM Internship Office will register you for the Internship course. Before they can do that, you need to take a number of steps yourself. You can find these steps on the internship page of your programme. The fixed registration periods for regular courses do not apply to internships. On the internship page you can find when you should have registered.
