Research Design

Course goals

After finishing the course, you can:

• Understand the requirements of a RMA thesis 
• Independently design a research proposal in preparation of their RMA thesis in which research question(s), theory, methodology, and historiography are aligned
• Present and defend their research proposal
• Critically provide feedback on research proposals of their fellow-students
• Determine what further training is needed to successfully write their thesis in the second RMA year
• Know a variety of Digital Humanities research skills and determine whether they are useful for their thesis or not

Content

Through a hands-on approach you learn how to formulate a research question and design a research strategy to answer this question. The end product of this course is a research proposal for your RMA thesis, which will be defended for a (mock) committee. In addition, you will be familiarized with theories and approaches in the field of Digital Humanities.
