Beschrijving

Course goals

In this course you acquaint yourself with a field of research in medieval history. At the end of the course you have an overview of the main debates within this field, the main sources that scholars use and a range of methods to study the sources. Moreover, you are able to identify a research question that adds to our knowledge of the field and contributes to existing debates. You are also able to identify sources with which to answer such questions.

Content

This research seminar is intended to help students improve their research skills. To that end, this course takes one primary source as its starting point, and introduces a series of research questions, current (or less current) debates, methodological issues and other challenges so that participants acquire wide knowledge about the contents of the text as well as the historiography.

Please note that you will need medieval palaeography, as well as basic knowledge of Latin.

Additional information

The entrance requirements for Exchange Students will be checked by the International Office and the Programme coordinator. Acceptance is not self-evident.
