Course goals

Blok: Het voorbereidend onderwijs in de perioperatieve vakken heeft tot doel studenten optimaal voor te bereiden op de start van hun coschappen. In drie weken tijd wordt essentiële kennis uit de bachelorfase opgefrist en verdiept, met nadruk op de vakgebieden gynaecologie, heelkunde en anesthesiologie. De cursus richt zich daarnaast op het ontwikkelen en versterken van klinische vaardigheden en communicatieve competenties die onmisbaar zijn voor het functioneren in de klinische praktijk. Studenten leren klinisch redeneren, diagnostische stappen plannen, en een basis leggen voor medicamenteuze en niet-medicamenteuze behandelstrategieën.
Belangrijke leerdoelen zijn: Het herhalen en verdiepen van kernkennis uit de bachelorfase die relevant is voor de perioperatieve coschappen.
Het oefenen en verfijnen van klinisch redeneren in een gestructureerde setting. Het aanleren en toepassen van praktische vaardigheden, waaronder het gynaecologisch onderzoek, ATLS opvang en hechten. 
Het ontwikkelen van professionele communicatievaardigheden, zoals de seksuele anamnese, conflicthantering en omgaan met fouten. 
Het vergroten van zelfreflectie en voorbereiding op het functioneren binnen een multidisciplinair team.
Na afronding van het voorbereidend onderwijs zijn studenten toegerust om met vertrouwen en basiscompetenties te starten aan hun coschappen in de perioperatieve vakken.

Objectives and content
The course Gynaecology and Obstetrics covers the many aspects of female health. Covered are early youth, including embryology, the periods before, during and after pregnancy and menopause. Room has also been created in this course for the longitudinal course pharmacotherapy. Attention will be paid to the topics hypertension and pharmacotherapy during pregnancy and premature birth.
The red thread through this course is formed by the opportunities offered by the laboratory in this area. The first week of the course is reserved for the longitudinal line pharmacology and pharmacotherapy. The last three weeks are aimed at gynaecology. The lab returns in every week of the course, focused on the topics of that week. A special feature of this course is that the first week is followed jointly with pharmacy students, during which the previously acquired knowledge of pharmacotherapy is reviewed. 
 
Work formats and weekly schedule
The course consists of 24 tutorials, 1 workgroup and a practicum pathology. The preparation for the workgroup can be found on blackboard. The first week of this course is ‘collaboration in pharmacotherapy’. Week two is based on fertility and sexology, week three is mainly gynaecology and in week four is obstetrics the main topic. In this week two E-Modules will be discussed. You are strongly advised to do these E-Modules, these can be found on Blackboard. The preparation for the discussion in the work lectures takes three to four hours on average. 

Place within the curriculum
The course Gynaecology & Obstetrics (G&O) is a course in Master year 1 of CRU2006. It is largely a preparatory course for the internship Gynaecology. Parallel to this course two lessons Clinical Skills and the lesson Gynaecological Examination in vivo are followed.

Assessment
Assessment is built on two components. 25% is made by a test about the content of the topic pharmacology, in which answers have to be given jointly with the pharmacy-students. An electronic test will be conducted at the end of week 4. All knowledge acquired in both this course and topic-related courses in the bachelor-period will be examined.
The course will be examined as part of the Utrecht progress test in year 1 and 2 of the Master CRU2006
