Internship Ophthalmology
Objectives and Content
The objective of the internship is to learn the profession of ophthalmology in practice. Knowledge and skills acquired in the first three years of the medical program should be multiplied and applied in the context of the future professional practice. Interns should also learn to work with a professional attitude. The requirements Ophthalmology from the Blueprint 2001 are listed in the manual of the internship Ophthalmology. These provide an overview of the skills and knowledge of examinations and diseases the intern must possess. The intern has to take history with the list of complaints of the Blueprint in mind and is responsible of keeping these lists during the internship. The supervisor will discuss this list during the mid-term portfolio interview and final interview.

Work formats and weekly schedule
The ophthalmology internship takes 4 weeks, of which the first two weeks consist of course training in the UMC. These course weeks consist of theoretical and practical peer group sessions and an anatomy lab session. The course-weeks Ophthalmology are both an addition to the course ‘Brain, senses and Movement III’ in year 2 and a preparation for the 2-week internship in Ophthalmology.
