Content and objective
The Department of Clinical Skills Education (KVO) teaches Practical Line Education (PLO). The PLO in Master 1 consists of the programs Communication and Attitude (CA) and Medical Technical Skills (MT).

In the CA Master 1 program, the emphasis lies on specific conversational skills to be applied in the doctor-patient consultations. Here the focus for the student is on building a treatment relationship with patients of different ages, exploring  a variety of patient perspectives  and handling the emotions of the patient and his environment, as well as his own emotions.
There are several coaching sessions during the Master 1. In small groups, led by a coach, students discuss the influence of their personality on their professional functioning as a (soon to be) doctor. Students can critically evaluate their own experiences in medical practice and relate them to their feelings and opinions. Coaching takes place in Master year 1 and Master year 2 during the internship. In Master 1 Coaching consists of 4 meetings of 2 hours, and additional time needed to prepare for meetings and write a report.

PLO-MT aims at a further deepening and / or integration of skills previously practiced in the PLO Bachelor's program. The applicability of the physical examination to the patient with complaints is discussed. The skills teaching is aimed at teaching and integrating the skills that prepare the students for the internship that follows the course.

Teacher (s)
The Communication and Attitude and Medical Technical Skills education is provided by teachers of Clinical Skills Education (MT and CA) and external teachers (certified coaches (CA) and doctors / clinicians (MT)). Simulated patients are used in CA teaching.

Teaching formats
CA has the following structure:
a. Six meetings of 2 hours. We practice with a teacher with simulated patients and selected real patients.
b. Four coaching sessions of 2 hours guided by a coach.
- Prior to LINK Rood, the student follows the lessons in Sexuality, Parent and Child and Unfavorable Prognosis  in BLOK Rood.
- Prior to LINK Blauw, the student follows the lessons in Bad News, Demanding Bahavior and Geriatric Anamnesis in BLOK Blauw.
In addition to the meetings, students can discuss questions with a CA teacher during a CA consultation that takes place every last Thursday afternoon of the month. A student can register for these sessions at the desk of the KVO (third floor of the Hijmans van den Bergh building).

MT has the following structure:
- Prior to LINK Rood, the student follows the lessons in Gynecology 2, Obstetrics 2 and Resuscitation 3 (PBLS) in BLOK Rood.
- Prior to LINK Blauw, the student follows the BLS / AED recertification (compulsory), Neurology 5 and Psychiatry classes in BLOK Blauw.

To be allowed to participate in the mandatory BLS / AED lesson, the BLS / AED Certification e-module with the corresponding test are required.

The MT lessons have a duration of 1 hour and 45 minutes. The skills are taught with fellow students as test subjects and with special training dolls. It is assumed that every student makes himself available as a test subject in basic physical examination if required. Students may have to partially undress as a test subject.

The lessons of the PLO MT are bound to a maximum number of students (12 to 14). The education takes place at the department of Clinical Skills Education.

There is a monthly MT consultation during which students can ask questions or ask for feedback on skills from a KVO teacher. Students can register for these sessions at the desk of the KVO (third floor of the Hijmans van den Bergh building). It is also possible to ask questions via Blackboard's digital discussion forum
The line books PLO-CA and PLO-MT Master year 1 and the overview of all lessons can be downloaded via Blackboard.
