General pathology and introduction in Histology

Objectives and Content
General pathology: To give the student an overview of the most important etiological and pathological aspects of disease. Topics covered include mechanisms of cell damage, congenital and hereditary diseases, inflammatory diseases, tissue healing and regeneration, circulation disorders and oncogenesis.

Histology: To give the student an overview of the tissue and organ histology relevant for medical students.

Course format and week(ly) schedule
The utilized work formats consist of interactive lectures,  e-modules  and workgroups, and (computer)laboratory sessions and self study

Place within the curriculum
General Pathology and Histology  is scheduled  in weeks 1 to 5 of year 1.

• Robbins and Cotran: Pathologic Basis of Disease 10th edition.
• Young e.a.: Wheater’s Functional Histology, A Text and Colour Atlas, Seventh edition.

Assessment
A written/digital test takes place twice a year (one regular test and a repeat).
