Infection and the Immune System

Objectives and content
The aim of this module is
- To gain insight  into the epidemiology, pathogenesis and pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis , treatment  and prevention  of important infectious diseases.
-To gain insight  into the epidemiology, pathogenesis and pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis , treatment  and prevention allergic reactions, auto-immune and auto-inflammatory diseases and vasculitis.
- To develop insight into the causes, clinical manifestations and treatment of congenital and acquired immune deficiencies.
- To refresh knowledge regarding the interaction between micro-organisms and the immune system, -

Course design and schedule
The course consists of interactive lectures/ “meet the expert” sessions and workgroups.
The course manual  indicates  the materials to prepare  prior to each session.

Place within the curriculum:
Infection and Immunology is scheduled in week 14, 15 & 16 and week 20 &  21 of the year (calendar weeks 49, 50 & 51 of 2026 and 2&3 of 2027) 

Literature
The literature for this  course is indicated on the general book list.

Assessment
An digital  examination  is scheduled  twice a year (one regular  and a re-examination ).
