Content
- To build on existing knowledge of basic physiology to acquire knowledge in the field of benign hematology (e.a anemia and coagulation disorders).
- To acquire knowledge of malignant neoplasms of the hematopoietic organs (bone marrow and lymph nodes), tumors of the urinary track and of the mamma.
- To gain insight into the multidisciplinary coordination of cancer treatment, including the coordination associated with pain management, psychosocial consequences of cancer, and palliative care.
- To gain insight into the impact a life-threatening illness has on patients and patients' families.
Work formats
The course consists of weekly interactive lectures, a microscopic pathology laboratory session, and a substantial amount of independent (ICT) self-study. The lectures and workgroups are organized according to the ‘Flipping the Classroom’ model based on ICT self-study The course handbook lists the material required to be studied. Understanding of the material is further developed and expanded on during each session. Students (in groups of two) are additionally required to interview a cancer patient and turn in a written report.
Place within the curriculum:
H&O takes place during weeks 21 through 25 of year 1 (weeks 4-8 of the calendar year).

Assessment
A written/digital test takes place twice a year (one regular test and a repeat).
