Objectives and content

• To build on existing knowledge to gain insight into the pathophysiology of diseases of the stomach, liver, and intestine.
• To gain insight into the epidemiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic methods, and where applicable, prevention of the gastroenterological and hepatic diseases which are most important for a general practitioner to recognize.
• To acquire knowledge of the main therapeutic methods of the different diseases.

Work format and weekly schedule
The course consists of weekly lectures, working groups and webinars. Furthermore, a substantial amount of time is expected to be devoted to self-study. The course handbook lists the material required to be studied prior to each session. Understanding of the material is further developed and expanded on during each session.  Additionally, a pathology laboratory session is scheduled.

Place within the curriculum
Gastroenterology and hepatology takes place in weeks 6 through 10 (calendar weeks 42 through 46) of year 2.

Literature
The course utilizes textbooks which were recommended to be used for the entrance examination for the educations streams "Knowledge" and "Scientific research."

Assessment
A digital test takes place twice a year (one regular test and a repeat).
