Endocrine system and metabolic disorders

Objectives and Content

- To build on existing physiological knowledge and gain insight into the pathophysiological processes associated with alterations in the production, secretion, and function of hormones, defects in hormone producing organs (for example tumors and inflammation), and metabolic disorders.
- To gain insight into the symptoms, diagnostic methods, and treatment options of common endocrine and metabolic disorders. 

Work format and weekly schedule
The course consists of a total of 13 lectures, and requires a large investment of time in self-study. The course manual lists the material required to be studied prior to each meeting. Understanding of the material is further developed and expanded on during each session. A pathology laboratory session corresponding to the material is embedded into the course.

Place within the curriculum
The course Endocrine system and metabolic disorders takes place during weeks 23 through 26 of year 2 (calendar weeks 6 through 9).

The literature used is referred to in the general textbook list.

Assessment
A written/digital test takes place twice a year (one regular test and one repeat).
