Objectives and content
The neurology practice course serves as an introduction to Neurology through the practical application of medical knowledge under specialist supervision.
Attention is given to neurological medical history taking and performance of the physical examination, to localize neurologic disease, and to the differential diagnostic procedure.
Work formats and weekly schedule
During 5 weeks, students spend one half-day per week practicing the clinical skills necessary to perform a neurological medical consultation.
The sessions start with one hour of self-study in which various parts of the neurological examination are explained.Thereafter, medical history taking and physical examination is practiced in each session. The physical examination is first demonstrated by the neurologist, and students subsequently practice the examination in vivo. The medical history taking is practiced by roll-playing, in which students play both the role of physician and interviewing doctor. At the end of each session, the students perform a medical consultation on a patient admitted to the neurology department under supervision of a medical specialist.
