Student Clinic - Ophthalmology

Objectives and Content
- To learn to recognize and to distinquish between the most common eye disorders seen in ophthalmology.
- To learn to perform an ophthalmologic physical examination.
- To learn to record the status of the patient.

Work formats and weekly schedule
During a period of 5 weeks, each group has one half day per week allocated to the ophthalmology out-patient clinic. Students learn under supervision in the student clinic.

The Student clinic ophthalmology takes place in year 2.

Course Materials
In order to participate in the student outpatient clinics ophthalmology the student needs to possess a penlight. White coats are on tenure in the UMC Utrecht against payment of a bond.

Assessment
Students must pass an entrance examination in order to participate in the student clinic ophthalmology. Furthermore, two assessments take place during the five-week period. The first assessment(if possible) moment is conducted after two weeks and consists of an interview in which the gaps in the student’s knowledge and skills are defined. The final assessment is a concluding evaluation of the practical functioning of the student.
