Student outpatient clinic in gynaecology and obstetrics

Course goals
- To learn to perform both gynecological examination and external examination of pregnant women.
- To gain knowledge of a number of common diseases in the field of gynecology and obstetrics.
- To become acquainted with common complications during pregnancy, with the Dutch obstetric system and the risk-stratified care-management.
Content
During a period of 5 weeks, each group has a half day per week allocated to the student clinic for Gynecology and a half day for Obstetrics. Students learn by conducting role-play exercises, practicing on phantoms, receiving training from specialized gynecological examination instructors, and by practicing - under supervision- on patients in an out-patient setting. Furthermore, students participate in meetings where patients are discussed.
Place within the curriculum
The Student Clinic obstetrics and gynecology takes place in year 2.

The relevant books for the student clinic are referred to on the general textbook list.
Course Materials
In order to participate in the student outpatient clinics the student needs to possess a stethoscope, a penlight and a reflex hammer.
Assessment
At the end of the five-week period, a final assessment addressing the practical functioning of the student is conducted.
