Objectives and Content
The main purpose of this course is to futher prepare the student for their clinical skills before the start of their internship at Gelre Hospital and at the general practitioner. The student starts with an e-learning about “how you can get the most out of your internships”. The e-learning will also be discussed in class by the general practitioner at Julius Healthcare centre, Utrecht. The KVO organizes a certification lesson for BSL-AED and an integration lesson with focus on the interaction between the anamnesis and the physical examination. Several topics such as documentation in the medical record, writing referral letters, the end of life discussion, organ donation and  chronic care will be shortly reviewed. In addition, there will be an introduction at Gelre Hospital, Apeldoorn.

Course format and weekly schedule
Monday:
Morning online
9.00- 11.00      Elearning "how do I go into my coschap well prepared"                           
11.00-12.00      Preparation for tuesday lessons CS BLS AED e module and Integration lesson SUMMA CS/CE
12.00-12.30       Refresh knowledge of filing Internal Medicine and referral letters (info Brightspace content)

Afternoon:      
14.15-15.00      General Practice lesson: Referral letters in general practice by mrs. J. Verhoog in BOL.1.138
15.15-17.00      Follow up online General Practice lesson and preparation medical clerkships with elder students (JVT)

Tuesday
09.00-10.45      Practise Skills (CS teacher)
11.00-12.45      BLS/AED certification (CS teacher)                               
15.15-17.00       Integration lesson SUMMA CE/CS (CE + CS teacher)
 
Wednesday

10:30 hrs. Science by Tjard Schermer (epidemiologist)
 
10:45 uur Medical Library
by Simone Visser en Eugénie van Dijk (informationspecialist)

 
11:00 uur ‘Kwaliteit en Veiligheid’ ('Quality and Safety')

Afternoon E-learning-independant  (In Gelre Hospital, preparation at home is not necessary)


Friday:

Student registration: receptie IC

13:15-14:15:     Internal Medicine: organ donation by Maarten van Eijk (donation coördinator UMCU)
14:15-15:15:     Internal Medicine: transmural care/ after care by Lidwina Wilschut (PA’er IC) and Germijntje Heijen (PA revalidation)
15:15-16:00:     Internal Medicine:  vitally endangered patiënt and emergency intervention teams (‘SIT’s’) 

Place within the curriculum
The Preparation Medical Clerkship takes place in the last week of the second year of college.

Assessment
Before starting the internship in Gelre Hospital it is compulsory to obtain the BLS-AED certificate.
