Medical Clerkship Surgery

Objectives and content
The Medical Clerkship Surgery builds upon the material of year 1 and 2.
The goals of the clerkship include:

- supervised and increasingly independent involvement in the of assessment and management of patients within the surgical specialty.
- familiarization with the treatment options within surgical subspecialties
- assisting during medical procedures
- involvement in the management of patients requiring prompt medical attention in the
Emergency Department
- partaking in correspondence with the referring physician and medical history taking

Course format and weekly schedule

Due to the COVID pandemic ork formats cannot fully correspond to the current situation. Some of the courseformats can be offered online rather than physical.

Place within the curriculum
The clerkship takes place in year 3

- Surgical Guidelines, Gelre Hospitals, location Apeldoorn
- Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) manual
- Kleine verrichtingen ("Small Procedures"), H. Keeman, uitgeverij Bohn en Scheltema
- Sobotta Atlas of Human Anatomy
