Course goals

• Explain the value of interdisciplinary research to disciplinary peers;
• Understand the value of your disciplinary knowledge in context of complex challenges;
• Understand the value of different methods (theoretical, qualitative, quantitative or mixed) for an interdisciplinary study;
• Communicate complex concepts and research findings with broad audiences;
• Work constructively and meaningfully in a diverse team of academics on assignments that demand interdisciplinary skills (e.g. perspective taking, critical reflection, problem-solving strategies);

Content

Today’s global and local challenges are becoming more complex, asking for more broad and dynamic collaborations. In line with this demand the role of academia is changing. GHIS is designed for curious, open-minded students that are eager to develop inter-, and transdisciplinary research skills. GHIS facilitates the interaction between students, and researchers to jointly explore various perspectives in the context of timely challenges (e.g. climate change, economic crises, health crises, destabilizing countries, transnational organized crime and more).
